Sustainable children's canteen

Sustainable seasonal menus and supervision during school hours at our place on Carrer Mossèn Juliana. Eating well and learning to eat are the same thing.

Seasonal menus, traditional Mediterranean cooking, with respectful guidance at our place on Carrer Mossèn Juliana, with the same care you'd put into a meal at home. Eating well and learning to eat are the same thing.

What lunchtime looks like here

The children set the table. They know what is for lunch before they sit down because the menu is on display and we talk about it. They serve each other and themselves. Everything gets tasted; nothing gets forced.

Supervision is not policing. It is an adult at the table eating the same food and answering questions. We identify the protein in every meal.

The menus

We write them monthly around what the fields give us, and we publish them so families can balance the evening meal at home. Plant protein leads the way, with local fish and meat at moderate frequencies.

  • Sustainable, farm-direct produce
  • Cooked in our own kitchen the same day, nothing pre-cooked or chilled
  • Adapted for allergies, intolerances and vegan diets
  • Menu published every month for families

Food as a subject

Each year we run projects that use food to teach other things. The advent calendar, for instance: every day in December the children discover a winter fruit or vegetable, how to cook it and what makes it distinctive.

We grow our own herbs.

Questions from families

Can a child come only some days a week?

Yes, we offer fixed days and occasional days depending on availability.

How do you handle a serious food allergy?

With a medical report, a written protocol and separated surfaces and utensils in the kitchen. The team serving always knows who has which restriction.

Is there any financial help with fees?

As a workers' co-operative we adjust fees in particular family circumstances. Please talk to us about it.

My child is a very fussy eater. What do you do?

We don't force and we don't bargain with dessert. We offer, we sit with them and we give it time. Pressure at the table usually makes things worse.

Can I see the menus before enrolling?

Of course. We'll send them, and you're welcome to come and watch a lunchtime in person.
