Menjador Ca la RosaWorkers' co-operative · La Sagrera, Barcelona

Non-profit social co-operative since 2015

We cook every day as if we were cooking for our own

We are a workers' co-operative in La Sagrera, Barcelona. We run a canteen, catering, cooking workshops and a community kitchen using sustainable produce bought straight from the farmers. And we use food to explain where it comes from.

On the table right now, in September

  • Tomatoes
  • Aubergine
  • Peppers
  • Figs
  • Grapes
  • Green beans
  • Chard
  • Plums

The menus change every month because the fields change. That is the whole explanation.

What we do

Four projects that share one kitchen, the same farmers and the same idea: eating well should not be a privilege.

Canteen

Seasonal menus and supervision during school hours, with real, respectful guidance at the table. Children know what they are eating and why it changes each month.

How the canteen works

Catering

For conferences, community events, schools and family celebrations, with no waste. Vegetarian menus and full adaptation for allergies and intolerances.

Cooking workshops

For families, children, young people, adults and groups. At our place or wherever you say. You cook, you don't watch someone cook.

Types of workshop

Community kitchen

We rescue food from local shops that can no longer sell it and cook it together every Tuesday. Against waste, and to build a neighbourhood.

How to join in

Food as culture, not as a chore

We want to build a culture of food through what children eat every day.

The co-operative's mission, written in 2014 and still current

The children set the table, serve themselves and clear up. Everything gets tasted; nothing gets forced. Supervision is not policing: it is an adult sitting down, eating the same food, answering why there is sweet potato in November and none in June.

  • Cooked in our own kitchen the same day, nothing pre-cooked or chilled
  • Mostly vegetarian menus, published every month
  • Adapted for allergies, intolerances and vegan diets
  • Projects like the advent calendar, where each day reveals a winter vegetable

We know the name of everyone who supplies us

We buy directly from farmers and co-operatives across Catalonia. We can tell you where every single thing on the plate came from, and that is not a figure of speech.

  • Conreu Sereny
  • Quèviure
  • Cal Roio
  • De Peus a Terra
  • Birra08
  • Growers in the Vallès and the Maresme

And who we walk with

  • Coop57
  • Barcelona + Sostenible
  • Catalan Federation of Workers' Co-operatives
  • Pam a Pam

Questions we get a lot

Do you cater outside Sant Andreu?

Yes. We serve the whole of Barcelona and the surrounding Barcelonès municipalities. For longer distances we assess it based on the size and timing of the event.

What is the minimum number of guests for catering?

We work from 10 guests upwards. Below that we can prepare food for you to collect from the kitchen.

Can you adapt menus for allergies and intolerances?

Yes. We prepare gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free, vegetarian and vegan menus. We need to know in advance so we can organise the kitchen and avoid cross-contamination.

How do you know the produce is sustainable?

We buy directly from farmers and co-operatives in the region, dealing with them personally. We can always tell you where something came from and who grew it.

Are you a for-profit business?

No. We are a non-profit social-purpose workers' co-operative, and we hold the Catalan certification for socially committed businesses.
